Volvo C70:

On 30 September 1996 the Volvo C70 Coupé was presented by Volvo's design director Peter Horbury at that year's Paris Motor Show, Pavillon dÀrmenonville."This is not the car you need -this is the car you desire" he said. The convertible was launched in 1997. There were 24,395 coupés built between 1996 and 2002 and 47,644 convertibles between 1998 and 2005.

The C70 chassie was developed along with the English TWR owned by Tom Walkingshaw and the cars were built in Uddevalla. Initially the cars were offered with two engines, the larger 2.5-liter light-pressure turbo with 193hp and 270Nm between 1800 and 5000rpm, and the smaller 2.3liter ,turbocharged, 240hp and 330Nm between 2700 and 5100rpm. From May 1999 Swedish buyers were only offered the 193hp engine in the convertible, but the coupé was in addition also offered with the 240hp engine and a 170 hp 2.5 liter engine. From May 2000, both cars were delivered with a 2.0T at1 63hp, a 2.4T at 193hp or a T5 at 240hp.
